From the Roof of the MCA to a GFFA, Wednesday

Kanan was anxious. Had been for some time now, as the summer built up to its grand finale, and now he was finding himself drowning in it a little, between numerous nightmare realities and the would-be execution and Rey vanishing and coming back a Jedi and now Summer, planning to head to Coruscant of all places.

And once upon a time, when he found himself this anxious, he'd run.

Didn't trust himself to come back, if he took off alone.

Had to do something productive.

And so he sent off a text.

Headed home for a supply run before new students show up. You in?

And then he made his way up to The Escape and he waited.

Honestly, if Sabine still had a roommate she'd probably be at least a little more sociable right now, but she wasn't, and she was a little tired of it. When she got the text it was actually a relief, and she found herself texting a thumbs up emoji before heading right over there.

"I'm ready," she greeted him.

"Great," Kanan replied, giving her a little nod as he hefted himself up toward the cockpit of the ship. "We'll see if we can't make it there without trees and monkeys this time around, hm?"

If he ever saw another monkey again, so help him...

"If there are moneys, I quit," Sabine warned.

Should she ever get to the zoo, she would avoid the primates as a whole.

"If there are monkeys, I might resort to drawing the blaster first, trying rational conversation second," Kanan agreed. He opened the cockpit and waved her up and in. "Anything in particular you're looking to stock up on this time around, or are we making the usual run?"

"The usual," she said, climbing in and taking her seat. "This hasn't been a summer where I used up a lot of my supplies."

She had spent a lot of time hoping their weekly settings wouldn't cause anything to explode, though!

"Funny that, huh?" Kanan smiled wryly. "If you're feeling up to it, maybe we can grab some surplus and bring the extra to one of the outposts that Hera and I have been doing deliveries to. There's one on Lothal that's still hurting pretty badly, at the very least they could use some food. They're having bad luck with crops at the moment."

What with the Empire taking all the best farmland.

"Sure. If we're going to be out, might as well help someone, right?" she reasoned.

"I figured at least that way, it helps someone find their footing again, even if only a little," Kanan agreed.

Him? Her? The refugees on Lothal?

Hey, who could say for sure, right?

"It's a good plan, I like it," Sabine said.

She maybe wondered about his phrasing, and decided to go with it.

Hey, he wouldn't clarify if she didn't ask for it! That way they could both have their denial. He nodded, closing the cockpit and running one last quick pre-flight diagnostic before powering on the ship's engines.

"Good, then this is going to be a productive day," he decided. "With no monkeys."

But seriously, kriff monkeys.

"I'm getting a little worried that you're jinxing us into monkeys," she told him.

"If I steer us into a situation with monkeys, I'll let you fly the next time we do this," Kanan offered, smirking faintly as he guided the ship up off the roof, wings unfurling as they went. "Fair?"

"You could let me do that next time anyway," Sabine tried.

Kanan gave the hum of a man who looked like maybe he was seriously considering the pros and cons of that suggestion. And then glanced her way.

"Want to fly this time?"

Hell, why not.

"Yes," she said immediately, and without question.

Kanan smiled faintly as he set the ship in a hover above the MCA, took his hands from the controls, and stood.

"Well, then I guess you're going to need the pilot's seat."

Which wasn't to say he wasn't going to be supervising. Keenly.

Sabine was getting up even before he'd finished saying that.

"Don't worry, your ship is in capable hands." She didn't have a ton of flight experience, but she had plenty of confidence.

Kanan was going to trust that confidence today! And... possibly freak out a little if it turned out to be unfounded!

"Well, good," he said, grinning faintly. "You know your way around portals and hyperspace, then?"

"I know the basics," she assured him. "I'll take it slow."

She was also very good about doing things correctly.

"Works for me," Kanan decided, making himself comfortable and crossing his arms over his chest. "I'm not exactly in any hurry, today."

He just needed to be off terra firma for a while. Out of Earth's orbit. Get back in 'Kanan' headspace, because 'Caleb' was being loud again.

"So this is a leisurely supply run," she said, working on the portal.

"So long as I'm not the one piloting my ship, it is," Kanan agreed easily. "At least until I see how you handle her."

This ship was his baby, Sabine. His baby.

"I'll teach you to doubt my skills."

By being very competent and not scary unless there was a reason to do something scary!

"And I'll believe it when I see it," Kanan countered, a light note of challenge in his voice, something more teasing than really serious. "Not many people have impressed me while flying my ship, you know."

... Generally because he didn't tend to let people try.

"Am I supposed to be impressing you? Because I'm going to get us from Point A to point B without crashing into any trees," she said, pulling them up from the hover to actually take off.
