MCA #3, Friday Afternoon
Okay, so class today had Kanan kind of itching to handle a lightsaber. He wasn't going to. He really had nowhere even remotely private that he could do so without risking an excited dog getting underfoot, and even if the Force was with him (or whatever) he wasn't about to risk some sort of horrible lightsaber accident while training just because Stance wanted to help.
So, after making sure Hera was at the junkyard doing... whatever it was Hera did at the junkyard. Running a business or scrounging for spare parts or whatever... he grabbed the first thing that came to hand in the apartment that had any sort of reach - a spatula - he rearranged the small bit of furniture in the living room, and he let himself fall into the old, familiar steps of the lightsaber drills he used to do with Master Billaba.
It wasn't all Soresu. He did occasionally stray, if only to see whether or not he could transition smoothly from the form he knew to the kenjutsu that he'd seen during class. But he always just kind of drifted back. The familiar was kind of nice, even if he was using a spatula.

She blinked.
"Is the food attacking now?"
She felt she needed to make sure.

... He managed to not throw the spatula at Hera, at least. Stance yelped, then ran to hide in the bedroom.
Kanan took a moment to say a few choice words in Huttese, then facepalmed as he shoved the spatula behind his back.
"No. No, the food isn't attacking."
no subject
"You know, I've probably got something in the junkyard you could use," she offered casually. "Something..." closer to a lightsaber? "...more weapon-like."
no subject
"I mean, all I really need was a hilt," Kanan muttered, wondering what was worse; using a spatula, or trading it in for garbage. "It's not a big deal."
Except for how he wanted to crawl under his bed and die.

She took some cold noodles out of the fridge and found a fork. "Might as well use something disposable."
And it was not - mostly - garbage, Kanan. Just discarded.

His hand finally left his face so that he could wave it around vaguely, instead.
"You know."
She did, so he could say it, because it wasn't some big secret around here, and at the end of the day he was the one being weird about it all.
no subject
It seemed logical to her, anyway.

...
He shut the faucet off a moment later and squinted at the cold, green fluid in his cup. And then just turned the whole thing upside-down in the sink and went to the fridge instead.
"Something better would be good," he said, deciding that he could only process one thing at a time right now, and green sludge from the taps was not going to be it. "I just need something that isn't going to cleave the furniture in two if I trip over the dog."
In true Jedi fashion. Really.
no subject
And because she couldn't not, "Have you tried not tripping over the dog?"
no subject
He just wanted love!

He didn't trust it. It was weird enough that the milk here was white, but green milkshakes were crossing a line.

No wonder he'd survived this long. He was so bad at being a Jedi, nobody would ever guess, at this rate.
"I can come down," he sighed. "Get a better feel for size and balance, that way."
Of course, you really didn't have to worry so much about balance when you were just swinging around a length of pipe.
no subject
Not that Hera knew that.
"How's the spatula's balance?" she teased.
no subject
Even if there was no need for it to be.
"Remarkably, just like a spatula," Kanan quipped. "Great if we're attacked by eggs, probably less useful if it's anything more intimidating than, say, burnt cheese."
no subject
"The shop this morning only had some sort of hot green drink, but it wasn't bad. Want to stop on the way?"

"Class today took in some martial arts demonstrations," he explained. "Including swords. I thought I'd... try some of what I saw."
Just because.
"The spatula was just kind of there."
And he wasn't assembling his lightsaber just to dick around with kenjutsu.

He fidgeted a little, and then added, "Sometimes, I actually do use my lightsaber for training."
Oh, hell, he spoke the words out loud. No coming back from that one.

Kanan sighed, then reached to unclip one smaller, less recognizable piece of it from his belt. Then reached for one of the pouches that would normally be reserved for blaster power packs, and pulled out the other half.
"... don't tend to keep it in any recognizable sort of shape."
It was safer that way.

She gave him a smile. "That's smart. But if it's safe enough here for you to...wave a spatula around?...then why not practice with it?"
no subject
He didn't want to decapitate his dog.
He frowned, and then screwed the two pieces together and just kind of... held it, for a moment. The urge to ignite it settled in his guts, and he fought it back.
"I don't use this lightly."
no subject
After a moment she said, "Hey - since you don't really need to go to the junkyard, why don't I take Stance with me? He can run around with Chopper, and you can do whatever you need to when a dog's not underfoot."

"You could, but I don't know what we're going to eat it off of after I burn the table in two."
He probably wouldn't burn the table in two. He'd just fixed that wobbly leg, dammit.
