MCA #3, Sunday Late Afternoon
It had all happened in a bit of a blur. Kanan had gotten home from work, had settled in for a quiet night of staring off, bored, into the void in the company of his dog and a bottle of something 160 proof, and had almost immediately been interrupted with a call from Portalocity. Apparently whatever the hold-up was keeping them from safely opening further portals to his home reality had been cleared, apparently something called a 'mynock' had gotten into the system on that end (of course it had been a kriffing mynock) and Kanan was cleared for portal travel back to Gorse whenever was most convenient. They would even give him half off the fare for his next trip!
Provided he took it in the next two hours.
Kanan looked at Stance, and sighed.
"I suppose if I'm going to stick around, I had better at least face the music and give Okadiah back his ship. Maybe I can catch a lift on an outgoing freighter and find my way to Moraga to pick up the Escape from there."
Stance whined, tilted his head at Kanan, and then gave his tail an experimental wag.
"Sorry, boy. I'm gonna have to find a sitter for you. At least until Steve gets Tony to make you that Adventure Dog harness."
Stance huffed and flopped down on the sofa, leaving Kanan to make preparations.

"Hey, Eliot," Kanan said. "Sorry about the short notice, there."

"Almost enough to turn me off Earth food for good," he said, even while making a face at the whole 'kid' thing. "I don't know what their obsession with those things is. I'm guessing they just keep doing that to get a reaction out of me."
He crouched down and clipped Stance's leach onto his collar, and then looked up at Eliot again, smiling wryly.
"You can blame it on the pancakes if he takes this badly, though. Maybe a sad dog will get them to give it up."

Yeah, he didn't think that Eliot knew or cared about where he kept his things in a galaxy he knew nothing about, but old habits, and all.

Kanan wasn't the only one Eliot was promising to be portal ready for on this trip.

It was maybe... half for people. People who didn't mind never seeing the light of day, and who enjoyed groundquakes and squalor.

It was like a guy's first car. But it could fly, Eliot.
"But besides that, I have to return the Expedient to her owner," Kanan added. "Okadiah's been good to me, and here I go, taking off with Moonglow property for nearly a year, vanishing without a trace. Even if it wasn't actually my fault, I almost feel bad about it."
'Almost' nothing. Kanan felt terrible. Okadiah was as much a father figure to him as anybody had ever been. For the whole five months that Kanan had been on Gorse before being hauled off to Fandom, he had been more than welcoming. Gave Kanan food, a place to stay, a job. And here Kanan goes, thanking him by unwittingly stealing his ship.

"Sure he'll be glad to get it back, then."
Also you, you dumb mook.

"He'll probably be relieved to not have to replace it, if he hasn't already," Kanan replied, shrugging. "Expedient gets the job done, but it isn't like she's worth all that much. Baradium haulers aren't exactly bought with longevity in mind."
Kanan was called a 'suicide flyer' by the miners on Cynda for a reason.

He often took the stupid, dangerous ones that no sane person wanted!

Eliot had not had barely had any nice, steady paychecks in his life.

"And who told you that was a promotion?"

A whopping five whole months. Ooo. Aah.

Kanan, you were going to have to get into this, at this rate.

Yeah, he really didn't see the rest of this week coming.
