Office #3, Friday

Kanan didn't spend much time in his office, these days. He supposed he ought to, but most students who needed him tended to be able to find him, either at the diner or on Fridays while he was training with his lightsaber.

This Friday... he was not going to be training with his lightsaber, no, and he'd messaged all the usual Friday suspects to tell them as much. If they needed him for anything besides, he was going to be in his office at the school, with a kettle of hot water on for tea, because... yeah, he was still not going to share his caf.

There was a bit of tidying to do, since he hadn't held office hours in roughly forever, so he busied himself with that while he waited for what he was sure was potentially impending disaster. He'd had to leave his blaster at home. His lightsaber was, of course, still in its component parts on his belt, because there was no way on Malachor he was going without after that one year where Vader had arrived on the island.

Ever.

Nope.

He hated Parents Weekend so much.

"... How are you always consistently better at this than I am, Rey?"

Because you were a trashfire, Kanan.

"I have some distance from it?" she shrugged.

[uncertain_dume]

"That probably doesn't hurt," Kanan allowed with a sigh. "It's rattling around like nobody's business and I don't want to cut myself off from it, but I'd really rather not be dealing with it right now, either."

He was still very much a Padawan, in moments like these.

"Do you have anything to distract yourself?" she wondered. This was maybe how she got through everything.

"I can meditate," Kanan supplied. "Not sure at this point if that will just make this worse or not."

"Then that's not distraction. Work on a project, or go out with Hera or something."

Rey could give plenty of advice on how to avoid feelings.

[uncertain_dume]

"I don't think I have any projects on the go at the moment. I suppose I could come up with one," Kanan mused. "Going out with Hera... might not be bad, either. I'll see what she thinks about that plan."

"Or, what do you do when you're bored? Also distractions," she said.

[uncertain_dume]

"I train, generally," Kanan replied. "But pulling my lightsaber out here in my office probably isn't a great plan."

It would be interesting if any parents actually stopped in, he supposed.

Rey blinked. "...Really? That's it?"

[uncertain_dume]

"I didn't exactly spend a lot of time building up great time-passing habits," Kanan answered wryly. "I could walk Stance, at least I'd be out and doing something, but if something is wrong around here I don't want to expose him to danger, either."

"No one would hurt Stance." She was confident in this.

[uncertain_dume]

"No," Kanan agreed, "because they'd have to go through me to try."

And woe betide anybody who tries to hurt his dog.

"I mean because he's great. You are tense," are sahd.

[uncertain_dume]

Kanan was silent for a few moments, and then he sighed, audibly.

"I really am," he admitted. "He is great, but I don't trust these weekends. I've never really been able to. I suppose my one saving grace is that they only last three days."

"It will be fine," she said. "And if anyone gives you trouble... beat them up."

[uncertain_dume]

"Advice for the ages, really," Kanan chuckled. "... But I might end up following it. I suppose we'll see which way the weekend heads and I'll go from there."

It was going to go 'tea with a member of the Dark Council of some three and a half thousand years ago' well. So that would be... a thing.
