"Okay," Kanan said, parked in the copilot's seat in the cockpit of the Ghost. "We'll be dropping out of hyperspace in just a few minutes. The planet we're stopping at is a fairly agrarian world, mostly grasslands with a few scattered mountains, and the presence of the Empire has been stepping up across the planet ever since they opened their industries to the Empire in an attempt to bail themselves out from economic disaster. Farmers are being run off their land and sent to a re-settlement camp with nothing to their names so that the Empire can dig up their homes for mineral deposits underneath."

The ship came out of hyperspace over a world that seemed to be about equal part ocean, stony mountain range, and grassland.

"We're going to be heading into that re-settlement camp," he pointed to the current night-side of the planet, "to deliver our cargo of supplies. We go in, we unload, and we leave. The faster we are about it, the better. We want to avoid too many suspicious eyes. Any questions?"

“I thought it would be more complicated,” Rey said, unaware that she might be jinxing them.

"We haven't even landed the ship yet," Kanan pointed out, glancing over at Rey. "But it's not always glory and adventure, either. Rebellions are weird like that."

Quieter than not, until they really started garnering attention.

“I’m okay with that,” she said easily. Honestly, there was something about dropping in just to help people that gave her the warm fuzzies.

"Well, good," Kanan chuckled, "because ideally, not getting noticed is the goal. And the residents of this settlement don't even have seeds for growing food unless we manage to get there. They didn't have much of an opportunity to grab anything important before the Empire ran them off their land."

"So if we do t get this down there it's even worse for them," she said. Hey, no pressure!

No pressure at all!

"Well, they'll probably starve to death," Kanan confirmed. "So, yeah. It's either life with some slim chance of making enough food to last the year, or a slow, painful death. The next step is making sure they have the equipment to harvest it. And checking back to make sure the Empire hasn't stolen what they've managed to grow."

Basically, they were going to be investing a lot of time around here for a while.

"These are the parts of a rebellion that don't get talked about, apparently."

But it was good to see that they were helping the little people. It didn't need to be all fighting.

"The big battles and secret spy operations tend to make better stories," Kanan replied, shrugging. "People need to eat in order to rebel, though."

Coming from somewhere where her job was literally scavenging from the Empire for food...

"That makes sense." Not that she was entirely comfortable with it.

Kanan considered Rey quietly for a moment, and then shrugged a little.

"It gives them a fighting chance, anyway," he settled on. "There are murmurings of revolution all around the planet, but they're small murmurings from the mouths of a brave few, and the Empire's going to be fast to crush them if it thinks they're about to become a credible threat. We intend to do what we can, wherever we can. Maybe that's food. Maybe down the road it'll be weapons, or madpacks."

Rey nodded. "I like it. Thank you for the invitation."

It wasn't often you got to help a rebellion... that was still going on in your time. She wasn't going to think about that part.

"Hey, it was nothing," Kanan said. "Thank you for coming along. If we pull this off, we'll be doing those people down there some good. They haven't seen much of that lately."

"How many places like this are there?" she wondered. There had to be a lot. But she was also just getting an education into this stuff outside her own world.

"Bada-boom, bada-bing," Summer said with a little smirk at Rey. A caf run turning into a mission was already a sweet surprise, but it was pretty cool having Rey along, too.

"Bada-boom?" Rey had never been bada-doomed before.

Or bada-binged, actually.

Summer shrugged a little. "It's an Earth thing."

Which was a super cool thing to say now since she was very, very far from Earth, which a bunch of people not from Earth.

"You hear in shows about mobsters when they talk about a job that should be quick and easy, you go in, you get out, bada-bing, bada-boom."

"Oh." She paused. "We aren't mobsters, though."

Right? Right?

"Well," Summer said, "noooo. More like vigilantes. It's still a covert mission that needs to be done under a cover of subterfuge because I'm pretty sure the Empire would deem it highly illegal, and that's what mobsters do, too, only they do it for themselves, and we're doing it for the benefit of these poor beleaguered farmers."

"Rebels," Rey corrected. "That's what it's called here."

Not that she found it really cool or anything.

And not that it wouldn't be very different for her when she was one for real.

"It's shorter, too."

"Rebels," Summer said, as if testing it out, then grinned. "I like it. You're right. Shorter. Succinct, to the point. Could make a decent name for a TV show or something..."

"...Sure. Have you ever done anything like this before?" Rey checked.

"Not.....exactly," Summer said, after a bit longer than it should have taken to consider it, but she was going through the list and realizing that any time they'd gone on 'missions' like this, it was usually to steal something or destroy a civilization, that sort of thing.

So, you know, not....exactly like this.

"But something sort of like it?" Rey asked.

"Something....close enough," Summer decided. "My grampa would make runs to different planets and dimensions all the time, and he's sometimes bring us along."

...Morty. He'd bring Morty along, and then Summer too because he badgered him about it until he gave in or she found some way to sneak herself into the plan.

"Oh. Then you're way ahead of me then," Rey said, taking that all at face value.
