Aboard the Ghost, in a Galaxy Far, Far, Away, Wednesday

"Okay," Kanan said, parked in the copilot's seat in the cockpit of the Ghost. "We'll be dropping out of hyperspace in just a few minutes. The planet we're stopping at is a fairly agrarian world, mostly grasslands with a few scattered mountains, and the presence of the Empire has been stepping up across the planet ever since they opened their industries to the Empire in an attempt to bail themselves out from economic disaster. Farmers are being run off their land and sent to a re-settlement camp with nothing to their names so that the Empire can dig up their homes for mineral deposits underneath."

The ship came out of hyperspace over a world that seemed to be about equal part ocean, stony mountain range, and grassland.

"We're going to be heading into that re-settlement camp," he pointed to the current night-side of the planet, "to deliver our cargo of supplies. We go in, we unload, and we leave. The faster we are about it, the better. We want to avoid too many suspicious eyes. Any questions?"

“I thought it would be more complicated,” Rey said, unaware that she might be jinxing them.

"We haven't even landed the ship yet," Kanan pointed out, glancing over at Rey. "But it's not always glory and adventure, either. Rebellions are weird like that."

Quieter than not, until they really started garnering attention.

“I’m okay with that,” she said easily. Honestly, there was something about dropping in just to help people that gave her the warm fuzzies.

"Well, good," Kanan chuckled, "because ideally, not getting noticed is the goal. And the residents of this settlement don't even have seeds for growing food unless we manage to get there. They didn't have much of an opportunity to grab anything important before the Empire ran them off their land."

"All that said," Hera added, "if you do spot any suspicious eyes, let me or Kanan know. It could just be they're wary of outsiders, or it could be something more. It wouldn't be the first time the Empire's planted people to weed out dissent."

"So if we do t get this down there it's even worse for them," she said. Hey, no pressure!

No pressure at all!

"Well, they'll probably starve to death," Kanan confirmed. "So, yeah. It's either life with some slim chance of making enough food to last the year, or a slow, painful death. The next step is making sure they have the equipment to harvest it. And checking back to make sure the Empire hasn't stolen what they've managed to grow."

Basically, they were going to be investing a lot of time around here for a while.

"That too," Kanan agreed. "Heads down, eyes up, blasters where you can get to them..."

Did Summer or Rey have blasters? Whatever.

"Comms where you can get to them, otherwise."

"I can't shake the feeling that we need codenames for this," he added, glancing at Hera.

"These are the parts of a rebellion that don't get talked about, apparently."

But it was good to see that they were helping the little people. It didn't need to be all fighting.

"The big battles and secret spy operations tend to make better stories," Kanan replied, shrugging. "People need to eat in order to rebel, though."

Hera thought about it. "It couldn't hurt. I doubt Rey and Summer will have a problem, but after Gorse you're not unknown, and my name has...complications."

Kanan actually gave an amused little snort at that. Yeah, 'Syndulla' sort of stood out, didn't it?

"Well, then what should we use? Something easy to remember." He tilted his head. "Something that goes with the theme, maybe?"

Look, the ship was the Ghost and the other ship was the Phantom. Nobody could deny there was a theme.

Coming from somewhere where her job was literally scavenging from the Empire for food...

"That makes sense." Not that she was entirely comfortable with it.

Kanan considered Rey quietly for a moment, and then shrugged a little.

"It gives them a fighting chance, anyway," he settled on. "There are murmurings of revolution all around the planet, but they're small murmurings from the mouths of a brave few, and the Empire's going to be fast to crush them if it thinks they're about to become a credible threat. We intend to do what we can, wherever we can. Maybe that's food. Maybe down the road it'll be weapons, or madpacks."

Hey, she was good at eluding Imperial patrols. It was a good theme.

Hera shrugged. "Wraiths? Haunts? Spectres? Spooks?" She smirked at Kanan. "Or we could use something more appropriate for you, like 'shistavanen' or 'wookiee'."

She'd be serious in a minute. For now she was getting in all the humor she could.

Kanan snorted and shook his head.

"Ha," he said. "You'd be a great Wookiee. You're about as fierce as one."

This was meant as a compliment!

"But I like... wraiths or spectres, I think. Spectre rolls off the tongue, don't you think?"

"Sure," Hera agreed. "So, do we want to be Wookiee and Spectre, or just have one code name and numbers?"

"A name and numbers would be easier to remember," Kanan mused. "And it would be less confusing if we ever had an actual Wookiee involved somehow."

He was leaning hard into the Spectre thing.

It went well with the ship names.

Rey nodded. "I like it. Thank you for the invitation."

It wasn't often you got to help a rebellion... that was still going on in your time. She wasn't going to think about that part.

"All right." Hera gave in with a smile. "So clearly you're Spectre 1 and I'm Spectre 2." She turned to call back to Summer and Rey. "I'll let you two fight over three and four or just be yourselves."

"Hey, it was nothing," Kanan said. "Thank you for coming along. If we pull this off, we'll be doing those people down there some good. They haven't seen much of that lately."

"No no no," Kanan said, shaking his head. "This ship had another member of the crew before those two came along, and he's not going anywhere. Chop gets to be three, they can fight over four and five."

Sorry Sabine, Zeb. You weren't around yet.

"You realize he doesn't need one, and he'll be insufferable," Hera murmured. Pleased as she was Kanan remembered Chopper, and fond as she was of him, the droid really didn't need any more ego boost.

"How many places like this are there?" she wondered. There had to be a lot. But she was also just getting an education into this stuff outside her own world.

"He's already insufferable," Kanan pointed out with a grin. "He's still crew."

Look, maybe he and Chop didn't get along so well, but any droid who was willing to put himself between a surprise living room shark and his dog at the very least deserved a codename.
