Okay, so... that had definitely been A Weekend. Doing tea with Sith Lords, having to face the fact that Summer was leaving for his own damn off-limits homeworld tomorrow and there wasn't a thing he could do for her if it all went sideways. Not having any guests of his own...

... Even if Sparkle and Hernando's guest had really given it her best attempt.

He had a lot to chew on. He was antsy. And antsy meant...

Well. He could think of someone else from home who probably hadn't had a visitor, which was why he was shooting Sabine a text:

Supply run day again. You in?

And then he was heading to the usual place, leaning back against the side of his ship with his arms crossed over his chest. Just waiting.

[OOC: For Sabine!]

comments

Kanan was anxious. Had been for some time now, as the summer built up to its grand finale, and now he was finding himself drowning in it a little, between numerous nightmare realities and the would-be execution and Rey vanishing and coming back a Jedi and now Summer, planning to head to Coruscant of all places.

And once upon a time, when he found himself this anxious, he'd run.

Didn't trust himself to come back, if he took off alone.

Had to do something productive.

And so he sent off a text.

Headed home for a supply run before new students show up.
Funny thing, Kanan hadn't been by the scrapyard since Saturday. That Saturday. Where he'd been marched there with a death sentence hanging over his head. Which wasn't because he was traumatized by the whole thing. Honest. He was fine. He was completely fine. He'd never been so fine in his whole life.

You could tell he was fine because he kept forcing himself to go out and socialize and do all the things that fine people did! All week so far, even!

...

But today his get up and go had kind of gotten up and went. So he was calling a 'stay home' day. Maybe he'd ask Chop to walk Stance for him. After all, it was finally safe to and the poor pup had been cooped up all summer. He just sort of wanted to hang out in the living room today. Maybe order delivery. See if there was anything good on TV.

Be fine.

[OOC: For she who also lives here, but open for calls/visits!]

comments

... You know what? Kanan was an adventurous guy, sure. But not even having a magical raccoon tail that let him fly was enough incentive to go and stand in the park working on his lightsaber forms today. And so, after class, he made his way back home, avoiding the swooping sun and flying over the quicksand (thanks propeller butt) and just settling in on the floor in the living room to meditate.

With a dog in a frog suit jumping on him every so often, demanding playtime.

He took that in stride. Mostly, he was getting increasingly more worried about Rey. As the day wore on without another check-in, he was seriously edging toward getting Chopper to help slice his phone to see if he could pinpoint exactly which reality he was going to have to get himself a Portalocity ticket to. One week of silence, he could reason away with things being a little more exciting than usual on Jakku. Two weeks? That was unlike Rey.

If nothing else, maybe she just needed a new phone?

He could hope it was that.

Hell, it wasn't that, was it?

[OOC: Open for calls or if you have any reason to be visiting his apartment! CW: Thread with Jack contains frank talk of alcoholism and self-destructive behaviour.]

comments

Kanan's head was rebelling on him.

Well. More than his head. All of his senses. If Rapture had been bad, this place had been a slow-burn flood into hell itself, the sickness creeping through everything on the island until all Kanan could feel was the poison battering at his defenses, a Force migraine gone overboard.

He hadn't been infected, no, but it had gotten bad enough that he wasn't even certain he could get out of bed today if he wanted to, and not just because he had a dog sprawled across his feet and a cat on his chest, insisting he stay put. Mostly because he was warm, granted, but at least a little bit because he wasn't whatever that creeping horror was outside.

... He wasn't inclined to argue.

This wasn't a great week to be nominally Jedi on this island, no.

[OOC: ...
Kanan wasn't completely certain how this whole thing was going to go, admittedly, but it was kind of undeniably clear that there were a few students who seemed to have it out for him in particular, and the result, the last time around, had been...

...

Well, he hadn't enjoyed it. And so he'd asked them to meet him in his office for a chat.
Once again, Kanan came through the portal back to Fandom with a squirming, excited Stance in his arms. And while Stance was happy just to be back to familiar turf, Kanan was thrilled to be back on the island and pulling in deep breaths of air without regret.

So, the walk back to the apartment had been nice. The growing feeling of... something... like a storm in his senses just building pressure? He could have done without that.

Finding the door to his apartment already unlocked, and stepping into the kitchen to see a young half-Twi'lek girl trying to stand up on her toes, delivering bossy instructions from just behind a slightly older half-Twi'lek boy while he attempted to fry a couple of eggs?

"These things don't even surprise me anymore," he muttered to nobody in particular, just in time for Anan to spin on her heel, give a delighted squee, and come barreling toward the kitchen doorway in order to wrap her little arms around--

"Stance!"

Yep.
As sometimes happened, Kanan's supplies were running low. He needed to re-fuel his ship, top up his medkit with bacta patches, grab emergency rations for his ship, and he really couldn't get away with putting any of those things off any longer. And since he happened to know a certain somebody who had been grappling with homesickness for some time now, he had called up Sabine, asking if she was up for making a routine supply run back home, in case there was anything she wanted to top up on herself.

Kanan had no idea if she actually needed anything or not, but he hadn't been surprised when she'd agreed to come along. He imagined she'd come up with something to justify the trip, if nothing else.

"Same rules as last time," he said easily as he steered the ship up, out of atmosphere and into orbit, "you're welcome to bring anything you like back, just so long as it's properly contained.
It was just supper.

You know. Like always, because Kanan did the cooking in this... apartment. Because it wasn't a relationship. It had been made clear that it wasn't going to be a relationship until the state of the galaxy was much improved, and Kanan respected that.

So it was just supper.

With chocolate for dessert. Chocolate that was far too bitter and far too hot for Kanan to eat without being sent into major gastronomic distress, so really, it was dessert for Hera, and Kanan would be perfectly happy with fruit salad, and he wasn't at all overthinking this, or kind of freaking out that she'd gotten him a dozen roses with a beautiful note or that Summer had upstaged him again with the damn prank flowers, he was fine about that, really. And the other flowers (and the one tiny trebuchet that had him laughing hopelessly for a good ten minutes) that had come to the apartment were okay. If he set them all around the living room then it was clearly putting everyone else's gifts on display because they were thoughtful and lovely and not even a little bit because they were atmospheric.

And he was hoping that, you know, maybe Hera wouldn't get the wrong idea from the fact that he'd clearly gone home to shop for that mynock and all the spices to go with. He'd clearly already just been in the neighborhood; he'd gotten nerf for himself too, see? Which he'd totally been planning on doing all along and hadn't just done because Jack had told him to after he'd almost killed himself with spiced chocolate.

Because, you know. It was just supper. Because Kanan did the cooking in this apartment.

[OOC: For the captain!]

comments

Jack was waiting for the other two men at the Portalocity office. Lounging against a wall and twirling a white knit toque with a tassel bobble on top and multi-colored spots around the whole.

Hernando arrived and gave the hat a skeptical look. "We are going to Mexico. You know it is not cold there?"

She smirked. "Oh, I know. It's not for me. It's for ickle. To cover his shame."

That received an odd look. "Why do you call him that? Do I want to know of this shame?"

Jack snickered. "Because he's ickle bickle." She didn't bother to explain further. "You'll see what I mean when he gets here."

Hernando threw her a small grimace of a look. He was almost certain he did not wish to know now. Not if it was the kind of thing that made Jack snicker like that.
Kanan hadn't really intended to last night, but there'd been a dog and a busy work shift and a lot of thinking to do with not a whole hell of a lot of answers, and while his day had ended with him falling asleep on the couch wondering why the hell a Jedi would carry a blaster and hide his lightsaber, this morning had brought a certain sort of clarity to the answer that had led to a good few minutes biting back the rising taste of bile in his throat as the last ten years of his life all caught up to him again.

He was dimly aware that maybe he should check on people. Make sure Hera was doing fine, call up Kaidan and let hm know he had checked back in, mentally. Do the same with Jack and Kitty and see how Eliot was faring after the weekend. But instead he was just sort of sitting on the couch, eyes shut, hands buried in his too-short hair while he quietly reminded himself that Jedi didn't hate, even if in this moment, he very thoroughly hated this island, this morning, and the person he'd become, instead of the person he apparently could have been.

... And his hair.

[OOC: Open!]

comments

Well, this was an awkward way to wake up.

That was the first thought through his head as he realized he wasn't in the bed alone. There was somebody else in that bed with him - lekku, warm to the touch, a Twi'lek, though he couldn't dredge up a name for her if his life depended on it - and just the fact that he was waking up half-curled around a person whose name he couldn't even remember was enough to jolt him awake just that little bit more.

There was something at the food of the bed, too and a quick glance down didn't betray much in the dim morning light beyond that it was some kind of animal, maybe the Twi'lek girl's pet? Which meant that he was definitely the one intruding here. Made sense. He didn't recognize the room, either. Couldn't even remember the situation that put him here in the first place.

Hell, he must've been pretty drunk last night, then. Couldn't remember the girl, the place, how he even got to be here...

His own name...?

"Wait, what?"

Oh, he had a bad feeling about this.

[OOC: For that lovely green lady!
"Against my better judgment, we're going Mid Rim tonight," Kanan announced, leading Summer away from where he'd landed the Escape, in a grassy field not far from a somewhat affluent city center on one of Naboo's moons. "You want a place with connections, here is where you go to get connections."

He glanced up at the pinkish sky and smiled crookedly as he walked. The cantina in question was only a few minutes away, on the city's outskirts, which was also a point in its favor.

"Pretty place, if you like grass, I suppose." He cast a glance Summer's way. "The people in the city around here have money, we're not too likely to fall into too much trouble in this cantina, but a lot of the industry here comes from miners from just out of town. Even odds we're walking into their watering hole, and if it's after hours today you'll likely meet some of the local... flavor."

Really, after-hours with a mining crew were some of the best hours Kanan had ever spent in his life. This was going to be a treat either way.

[OOC: For one!]

comments

Back in a people-shape again, Kanan was starting to get back into the swing of things. He needed to make a stop by his office today, for starters. Being a cat had meant that he'd fallen behind on his share of the calling around, seeing if there were any organizations on the mainland who could use a few volunteers for an hour on a Friday sometime during the semester. Because Stance wasn't going to let him just hunker down and place those calls from home, he'd made his way in to his office.

It wasn't until he'd sat himself down at his desk and had his hand halfway to his phone that he looked up to see the painting on his door.

...

...

"Sabine!"

Just what he needed.
The supply run to Tarkintown had gone surprisingly according to plan, this week. They'd picked up the food and tools to bring to the Lothal folks who had been displaced, dropped them off, helped the locals hide them away somewhere that wouldn't be immediately noticed by Imperials, all while Kanan sauntered around in the Stormtrooper armor he'd... liberated... on that trip for medical supplies that had gone to hell the moment they'd stumbled across Imperial prisoners.

Hera blamed the success of this mission on fortuitous timing and solid planning.

Kanan, mostly just to be contrary, blamed it on his clever disguise.

"This armor is still stupid," he informed her, "but I'm keeping it."

[OOC: Open for texts and phone calls!
Kanan didn't spend much time in his office, these days. He supposed he ought to, but most students who needed him tended to be able to find him, either at the diner or on Fridays while he was training with his lightsaber.

This Friday... he was not going to be training with his lightsaber, no, and he'd messaged all the usual Friday suspects to tell them as much. If they needed him for anything besides, he was going to be in his office at the school, with a kettle of hot water on for tea, because... yeah, he was still not going to share his caf.

There was a bit of tidying to do, since he hadn't held office hours in roughly forever, so he busied himself with that while he waited for what he was sure was potentially impending disaster. He'd had to leave his blaster at home. His lightsaber was, of course, still in its component parts on his belt, because there was no way on Malachor he was going without after that one year where Vader had arrived on the island.

Ever.

Nope.

He hated Parents Weekend so much.

[OOC: Open!]

comments

Kanan was in a pretty good mood tonight, all things considered. His day at work had been... not uneventful, but not terrible. The mynocks had been a bit of a hydrospanner in the works, sure, but those had been relocated back into the freezer more or less without incident, and as much as he dreaded the idea that Summer and Sabine were friends now, it was a welcome sort of dread. A fun sort of dread?

Hell, he trusted them both. Sure, he trusted them both to give him a difficult time, but that was an important part of their dynamic.

Or something.

He shrugged as he cut a piece of meat from the steak he was preparing in the kitchen, tossing it casually to the dog who was waiting patiently a few feet away.

"Yeah, yeah," Kanan chuckled, shaking his head at Stance. "I already know you'd help Summer do any crazy thing she wants.
Kanan had been doing... impressively well, all things considered. Trip to Coruscant, re-treading old trauma, wrapping his head around the possibility of actually continuing his training.

Staying up all hours of the night, afraid to close his eyes.

Okay. Some things weren't going as well as others. Tonight was one of those nights, Kanan laying on the flat of his back, staring up at the ceiling. Sleep seemed to be evading him, taking a back seat to the shadows in his head, instead. And for not the first time this month, he tried to ignore it for as long as he could, tried to center himself, push beyond the pain so that he could at least get some rest, whether it would ultimately be restful or not.

However, after a good, long while of just sitting with his own thoughts tonight, he did something he hadn't done before.

"Hera...?
Kanan was still kind of uncertain about how he'd wound up agreeing to this. But here he was, running systems checks on the Escape, the fish still sandwiched between two pillows, screaming out its muffled Sabotage refrain like that didn't particularly matter.

He had to admit, the idea of dumping it off on-or-at-least-near the moon was pretty appealing, though. The rest of it?

"You comfortable, there?"

Well, the rest of it was a bit awkward.

[OOC: For one!]

comments

So... it was finally Kanan's turn to inherit the singing monstrosity. Which was almost fitting, in away. After all, he'd 'won' the thing by singing. Monstrously.

Kanan's time with the fish started, probably predictably, with a round of The Song That Doesn't End blaring directly into his mind, followed by a small fireworks display and a sudden vomit of glitter and confetti.

It had gotten worse from there.

He was looking slightly irritated by the time he made it to the door of his apartment, with the fish screaming Sabotage and stinking like pumpkin spice from under one armpit. He'd tried shutting it up by smashing it against a brick wall on the way - a move he'd never admit to - and the fish had healed from the damage.

So. Day one of his week with the fish had officially begun.

He could already hear his dog crying on the other side of the door.

[OOC: OPEN.
After a conversation with Rey yesterday about how much longer before she had to head back to Jakku, Kanan had offered to show her a bit more of what was out there in the galaxy. They had about a month, after all, and it would be a month wasted if she didn't take advantage of the fact that portals and starships could get them to practically any kind of world she'd ever dreamed of seeing.

The fact that they'd wound up in Baltimore was kind of hilarious, then. She'd wanted to see a city, and there happened to be one right across the Causeway that she still hadn't been to. From there it had been a matter of figuring out something to do, and the zoo had seemed amenable, so... here they were, after a walk to catch a cab, because 'the zoo' was not exactly the ultimate city experience and Kanan figured that at the very least, they could stand to take in some scenery.

Buildings, people, traffic, litter... City life.

After the cab pulled in at the zoo and Kanan settled up with the driver, he nodded toward the front gate, feeling weirdly naked standing there without armor on his shoulder or a blaster at his hip. He did have his lightsaber, though, stashed in a bag over his shoulder along with a few extra bottles of water and his phone.

"Welcome to the closest thing to wilderness you can find in a big city," Kanan said, managing to not make a comment about how every city on the planet was actually kind of cute when your entire homeworld happened to be one. "Watch out for kids, we'll probably be tripping over them all day."

[OOC: For Rey!]

comments

Kanan had gone to bed last night satisfied with the direction his week seemed to be headed. Already Tuesday and he'd mustered the will to ask a Master for any help she could give him in getting him back on the right track, and his new favorite recreational activity had traded in the Bloodwine selection for a juice bar. He'd set his new training remote by his holocron in a drawer in the room he shared with Hera, and he'd just sort of collapsed into bed, pleasantly exhausted, after putting forth minimal effort to at least shrug out of his armor and remove his weapons.

Caleb had woken up the next morning, still clothed in his robes, blinking hazily up at the ceiling. Mygeeto had been... eventful. He'd gotten his first kill in battle, and there had been no glory or satisfaction in it-- only the chewing hurt that had come in the wake of the pain and fear and anger he'd felt when Sear had killed Stance with a sudden shot to the back. Yesterday had involved a battle, and then a funeral, and then an emergency trip back home so that Master Billaba could heal up after her fight with Grievous. He'd collapsed in bed without so much as changing, and so waking up today still wearing his robes was more or less to be expected.

Less expected was the pair of Twi'lek lekku that he first saw when he opened his eyes. Caleb blinked at them blearily in the dim morning light. Had he stumbled into Sammo's bed by mistake? No way, Sammo would never let him live that down. But then the dog jumped up onto the bed to join them, having noticed he was awake, and--

There wasn't really much else for it. Kanan Jarrus had fallen in to the bed last night, and this morning, with a start, Caleb Dume was unceremoniously falling out of it.

"Ow."

[OOC: For she who lives there!]

comments
