Nina had done SO MUCH texting today, so much, but she finally had some sort of answer.

Grumpy bus guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I spoke to the others and, like, we're cool Wednesday after the park stuff or, like, Friday, I guess????????????????

Kanan sighed. He was forever doomed to be the bus guy.

I have some students I teach on Fridays, but my Wednesdays are free, park stuff aside. Wednesday will do just fine. Thank you.

October 14, late at night

Jack had EDI dump the message to voicemail. Wasn't.. up to talking to anyone in person but this was a call she had to make.

"Hey. It's me. There was a bomb. Kaidan's hurt and he's in surgery now. I'm okay. I don't.. I don't know anything more than what I just said. Won't for hours. Don't try to contact either of us. Everyone here thinks we're dead."

Beat. Her next words were coldly angry.

"We're not. I'm not. Whoever did this is gonna wish they were before I'm done with them."

Beat.

"We'll come home as soon as we can. Don't come here. There's nothing anyone can do right now but wait. Liara.. Liara will call you if anything changes. She promised."

And .. unable to say goodbye or anything even close to that, not while sitting in a hospital waiting room with Kaidan in surgery.. Jack simply hung up.
